National Treasure Meets Mixed Reality

This project takes advantage of Mixed Reality (MR) technology applying to Japanese national treasure
“Wind God and Thunder God,” painted by Tawaraya Sotatsu. Using modern 3D graphics,
MR lively illustrates and tells the stories that lie hidden beneath the masterpiece, including Sotatsu’s
intentions and wishes, the origin of the subject, and the impact on later cultural scene, etc.

What is Mixed Reality?

Mixed Reality (MR) is a technology that offers the mixed experience of physical and virtual worlds.
Microsoft HoloLens, with Windows 10, can project holographic images onto the physical space around you. It brings the physical and the digital experiences together to see objects from various aspects, and enables you to manipulate digital contents.

This is the first Japanese project to involve Microsoft Mixed Reality Capture Studios, a Microsoft studio dedicated to 3D filming for MR. For further details on Microsoft Mixed Reality Capture Studios,
